Cannabis use for medicinal purposes among clinical populations in California: Population estimates of prevalence, frequency, quantity and reasons for use

Overview: The proposed project examines medicinal cannabis use among clinical populations in
Los Angeles County (LAC) to address the lack of comprehensive data on who uses medicinal
cannabis, how they use it, and the impact of use. The study aims to (1) assess prevalence and
demographic characteristics, (2) compare health conditions among patients using cannabis for
medicinal purposes only versus those using it for both medicinal and non-medicinal reasons, (3)
analyze usage practices and patterns including product type, dosing, and perceived benefits
and harms, and (4) produce statewide estimates of medicinal cannabis use among clinical
populations.
